No but you can file as Married filing separate.  But Joint is usually the best way to file.  Why are you asking?  Is your spouse foreign or didn't live with you?

No, actually you get more by filing Joint if one spouse doesn't work.  You still file Joint for both of you combined.  You will get an exemption for her which is the same as claiming a dependent.

That is not true, unless you were legally separated under a signed Court order. Otherwise, you must amend that year.
