Can I file for the child tax credit even tho I’m not currently working? I did extensive research online that said, even tho I am not working at the moment I can collect.

I did extensive research online. Which told me in every article and research I did that yes I can in fact, collect the child tax credit, even though I am not currently employed. But, when I went to H&R Block, they told me that I did not qualify. I need help! I’m a single mother raising these three boys by myself I couldn’t even use the $250 a month at the government gives me due to the fact that my estranged husband does not pay child support. I love bawling my eyes out because I was Not expecting her to say that I did not qualify. I was going to use that money to buy a car. So, Not only can I get my kids back-and-forth and important appointments. But I also can get a part-time job with a car. I am totally crushed after leaving H&R Block and I feel like the wrong. If anybody is any advice, please, please please get back to me.

For tax year 2023 you must have at least $2,500 of earned income from work to be eligible for the child tax credit.
