I paid for my step daughters abortion. The abortion clinic said I can use the cost as a donation or deduction. Can I?

Can i deduct my step daughters abortion cost

It depends. If you qualify to claim your stepdaughter as a dependent and it was a legal abortion, then you may benefit by claiming it as an itemized medical expenses deduction. However, there is a limit on the amount of medical expenses you're allowed to claim. In general, you only get credit for the medical expense deduction that is over 10% of your adjusted gross income (if under 65) and over 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (if over 65). You could also claim the expense as a charitable donation, if the organization qualifies. In either case, you must have enough total itemized deductions, for the expense or deduction to benefit you. Most taxpayers that qualify to itemize tax deductions are homeowners.
