I suspect it's because I had to do a clean install of my iMac? I did my taxes ... as I have every year since 2007 ... with TurboTax Home & Business. Now I want to reopen my 2017 return since I might have to do an amended return. It won't let me because it says I need a State, which is CA, and which I ALREADY purchased when I did my taxes for that year. How do I prove I already paid for it? It also seems that perhaps I might have had another account ... since you guys only show the last few years, when, again, I've been using TurboTax since 2007. I talked to a rep, for a long time and she was going to send me I believe a Request form, to get my earlier returns. NOW I always make a PDF copy, but in the beginning I didn't. We checked that both of my email addresses were correct. She said she was going to send to both my newer and older email accounts, but nothing ever arrived?! That was two weeks ago. Yes, I checked in my Junk and Trash folders.

Since you are using the TurboTax Home & Business version and not the online version, your tax data is stored locally on your computer and TurboTax will not have the data information stored in that file. The .tax file stores all of the data needed to transfer the information into the program. You might check to see if you have a .tax file for 2017 backed up externally before you did the clean install. Unfortunately, the PDF file is limited as it is a non-editable "snapshot" of your tax return that can be opened, viewed, and printed in a PDF viewer program, but not edited or amended.
TurboTax Home & Business charges you to e-file the state, but does not charge to prepare the form as one prepared state form is included with the Home and Business software (giving you the option to print/mail and not pay to e-file). It might be asking you to purchase again because the state was technically "used" the first time and the program thinks you are adding another state (which does cost extra). I can't say for certain that is the issue; that is just my best guess.
Since you have not received anything in 2 weeks, you will need to contact a rep. for assistance with the state. As far as proving you paid, if you e-filed, they should be able to locate the charge. The only way they would not see a charge is if you purchased the software from a retailer and print/mailed the free prepared state form.
They are not open on the weekends off-season, but are open Mon - Fri 5 AM - 5 PM Pacific.
P.S. If you purchased anything to download from TurboTax, you can access your downloads with the link provided. You mentioned that you might have multiple accounts, so you will want to check both e-mail accounts by logging out of one and into the other to check.

I am tying to open (and print) my 2018 tax return from a different computer than the one I used to prepare my tax return. I'm filing state tax in three different states, but the software will not allow me to open the tax return unless I once again buy the the two addition states (one state is provided for free). However, I already bought the two additional states when preparing my tax return earlier in the year, so why should I have to pay once again for simply trying to open and print my return from a different computer?
I have the Turbo Tax Home and Business version 2018 on a CD Rom and have installed the software on two different computers.
Please advise on how I can avoid paying twice for the same product/service.
