Hello,
My DD has both SSI disability due to a mental health diagnosis and SSI survivor benefits because she was disabled before the age of 18 and my husband died. Together the amounts total $26,614.80, with 16, 680 of it coming from the survivor's benefits. I do not claim her as a dependent. Do we need to file a tax refund for her? there is no other income. Turbo tax is indicating we cannot e-file but should mail in the paper but it seems to indicate we don't need to file at all on this board. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Not sure who "DD" is-----but if the only income received is Social Security you do not need to file a tax return unless you have a 1095A for marketplace health insurance.
No, this type of income is not taxable and does not need to be reported in a tax return, unless there is other income as well.
Here's more on SSI Income.
