BlackRock Mutual Funds Import Not Working

I'm using the desktop version and am trying to import from BlackRock.
I enter the credentials and get the following. What could be the problem?

Something’s not working

BlackRock Mutual Funds

We didn’t find the right account types to connect at this provider.

We can connect to BlackRock Mutual Funds but can’t find the right kind of accounts. Select an account at a different provider. (106)

Here are some more troubleshooting ideas for you to import your 1099 forms:

  • If prompted to connect in a browser, click the shield icon to the left of the URL and disable Enhanced Tracking Protection
  • Clear cache/cookies, then try the import again
  • If importing from Schwab or TD Ameritrade, remove special characters from your password temporarily, as they can cause authentication issues
  • If the import is over 4MB or contains excessive transactions, it may time out; switch to manual entry
  • Temporarily disable firewalls or antivirus software, which can block connection to broker servers
  • Check for Duplicate Files: If you receive a "duplicate installation" error, delete one of the instances
  • Ensure your document ID from the broker has the correct number of characters

You could also enter your information manually, follow the steps below and select Skip Import.  Then follow the remaining screens to manually add your 1099-B data.

  1. Go to Federal, then Wages & Income, then Investments and Savings
  2. Select Revisit next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B)
  3. If you see Did you sell any of these investments in 2025?, select Yes. If you see Your Investment summary, select Add more sales
  4. Select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Continue
  5. Type the name of your financial institution in the search box, select the appropriate financial institution name, and select Continue

You can use your summary of transactions separated by the short term and long term holdings based on how long you have held the investments. This is acceptable to the IRS and you have the detail to keep with your tax return files should they request them.

That didn't work.

I called BlackRock and they told me to enable External Aggregator Access on my account. I did that. And it still didn't import.

On Apr 3, I tried again after TT updated. And still no luck. TT now has a blank page that says Maintenance Notification from your import provider.

you could continue to go around in circles or just input the 1099s manually, most are quick and simple to do and you likely need to review imported 1099s anyway and provide supplemental info for US Gov Obligations or Munis.

1099Bs can be input at summary level tho if you have any adjustments (wash sales, AMD - unlikely if these are mutual funds) or noncovered items those are best input one-by-one to avoid requirement to mail the 1099B details to IRS.
