I purchased the CD version of TurboTax home and business. Can I use the online version instead? Can I simply enter in my product ID or serial number in order to do it?

Not sure why you would want to use the Online version but no, the ID or serial number will not work for the Online version. You would need to contact TurboTax support, they might be able to give you a credit to use the Online version.
The Online version you can prepare one return (Federal & State) per account (UserID). If you need to prepare another return you would need to create a new account. The Online version also does not have Forms mode.
