Thank you so much!
I was sharing what my specific experience was with amending a state return. Now, this did occur a year ago, and I've only ever done it the one time. I saw another poster stated that a state amended return could be e-filed, if the federal was also amended and e-filed. Maybe things have progressed since last year. Even so, I never considered attempting to send an amended federal return, because I had no need to amend it. (The way I'm wired, I would never do that anyway, unless that was the only way one could proceed.) I saw that I could stick to amending the one state return, since the error did not impact either, the federal return, or the other state I'm required to file in. I can only tell you, once I completed the amendment process, the TurboTax generated filing instructions stated, paraphrasing here, e-filing the return was not an allowable option. Assuming the e-filing of a state return, regardless of whether it was the original or amended is not free, I saved $25, well approximately $24.40, because I did have to use a postage stamp to mail it.
The only other thing I can reiterate, unlike what the other posters said, was that I found I could bypass the federal amendment process and jump right to the state amendment section. Yes, I had to mail the return in, but it was an easy thing, the state accepted the return, sent my refund promptly, end of story. That is pretty much all the more I can say to you at this point.
Thanks for your suggestion!
When I e-file my amended return,Turbotax told me my e-file is failed. So I have to mail. But I can't find the mail address to my state(Massachusetts). Only I can find is federal mail address.
And I checked the e-file status and found my state amended return is accepted.I totally confused. What I should do now? Thank you!
I recall, when this all started, you mentioned your desire to amend *two* state returns for consecutive tax years. I suggest verifying, if possible, which filed state return is being acknowledged, the one you successfully e-filed or the one reported as failed. The data returned from you should list the tax year, and minimal identification information, such as your truncated TIN (e.g., ***-**-1234) and maybe your name and address. If the failed e-filing is *not* the one acknowledged, it stands to reason you will definitely need to mail that one in. You might review the TurboTax Filing Instructions, which should comprise the first page or two of your amended return to make sure the location to mail your return isn't printed there. Otherwise, the revenue or taxation agency for your state almost certainly has a website that provides provide support or telephone/mailing address contact information by which you may learn where you need to mail the amended return. Even a Google search, "Where to mail amended MA tax return" ought to give you the answer.
I only worked on one state of one year.
