I accidentally filed wrong and when i amend it is showing that I owe. is this because they are calculating what was accepted when I filed? or is it truly what is owed instead of me getting a return?

Long story: The amendment tool of Turbo Tax online shows amount owed or refund due to amendment changes with consideration to refunds or tax owed under a previously filed return.
Short story: Amount owed is likely what you owe.
Good job on amending your return! The "final" balance due or refund shown on the amended return is the difference from your original filing and what should've been filed originally. If your original return showed a refund and your amended return shows a balance due, you will get the refund from the original and need to pay the balance due on the amendment. Just treat the original and the amendment as two separate transactions.
