amended return

I have discovered a mistake on my 2018 return for which I need to amend and pay a penalty.  I have already amended the return for 18 once for a different reason.  Do I create the new amended return from the amended return or from the original? I did both with turbo tax, of course.

amended return

To complete the second amendment you will need to manipulate your return by deleting the Form 1040X, which will leave you with a 1040 "original" return that includes the changes from the first amended return. Then, you will start the amend process over again to put in the information needed for the second amendment.

amended return

many have tried to do exactly that  (see forum).

Easier said than done. It just doesn't work.

OK. experience with 2018 and earlier TurboTax. Maybe this year it's improved.

amended return

This worked.  thanks for the information.  I was puzzled as to how to do this.  I did have to manually change the adjusted gross income, the taxes owed and taxes already paid to match the first amendment but otherwise it went well.

Now I just need to make sure I do my 19 taxes correctly to avoid the amendment process! 🙂
