AirBNB (DADU) Expenses

We own a three bedroom house and we AirBNB a DADU (1 bedroom, full unit). How should we split utilities for expense purposes?

The most common method used is taking the square footage of the rented dwelling and dividing it by the total square footage of the house. This will give you the percentage to use to calculate your rental expenses. 

Another method is the number of rooms. You rent 1 room. And use the other two rooms. So 1/3 of the expenses will be rental expenses.
