I keep getting an entry error for my daughters age. We adopted her out of foster care back in 2021 (born in 2005), and first filed for the adoption credit on our 2022 tax returns. Some of the credit was applied the rest was carried over, none used in 2023 and now in 2024 it's being applied again, but it's telling me that the Credit "requires that an adopted person be under the age of 18." She is 20 now, granted, but wouldn't the carryover from 2022 still be available as a credit towards any taxes owed for up to 5 years? It won't let me file because of her current age now, not the age of her adoption.

When I tried to replicate your situation with an adopted child who was born in 2005, I don't receive this message, and I am able to claim the adoption credit carryover. Try reviewing your entries in the adoption credit section, especially your response to when the adoption proceedings began for this child and when the adoption was finalized.
