I have turbotax delue which comes with Federal and 1 state return and to e-file both.  Is that correct.  I paid for another state $44.99 and it is wanting to charge me another $39.99 for filing?  Is the correct?

No.  I think the extra 39.99 is if you want to have any fees deducted from your federal refund.  Or you can pay with a credit card.  

It is 44.99 to buy another different state program.  Then also it is 24.99 (19.99 before March 1) to efile each state return including the first one.  Or you can print and mail state for free.

Go back through the File tab slowly and watch the screens and be careful what you click on.  There is one screen that can trip you up.  I think people get going too fast at the end to file and don't pay attention to what they are clicking on to continue.

Only Federal is free to efile.  Go back through the FILE tab and watch for this screen.

Maybe Turbotax should give a break on the $44.99 additional state tax return charge with the current economic downturn.
