A move into Calif during 2016 and earning income while there would likely cause a need to file a part-year Calif return. In Personal Info, indicate your state of residence as CA, for part of the year, enter the date you moved there and select Texas as the state you moved from. Then prepare your federal return normally, then the part-year TT/Calif return.
