Question

6 vs 5 digit PIN

I've selected Search in TT and followed the instructions to enter a 6 digit  IRS PIN, which I did, but when I go to file my return, TT only allows me to enter 5 digits as valid. Whats the solution? And why is there not an option under file to enter either. Still unable to E-file a return. A lot of posts on this topic, but not a solution that works.

If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file.  Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.

The 5 digit PIN is a self-selected PIN for e-filing the tax return.  It has nothing to do with the 6 digit Identity Protection PIN you received from the IRS.  You need to have your IP PIN entered and you need to enter the 2023 AGI for your electronic signature.

Does this mean I leave the 5 digit PIN box blank, or does it not matter what's entered there?  Thanks

No, you cannot leave the 5 digit e-file PIN box empty.  TurboTax requires that you enter any 5 digit number in that box so the tax return can be e-filed.
