Hello,

I had to (unfortunately) take a distribution from a 401k at a previous job last year. Just wondering if I can still file a simple return with the 1040 or 1040-EZ? Thank you!

Form 1040-EZ is no longer used. Everybody files form 1040.

You'll receive form 1099-R for your 401(k) distribution.

You can enter your form 1099-R by following these steps:

    1. In TurboTax, open your tax return
    2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Wages & Income on top of the screen
    3. Scroll down and locate the section Retirement Plans and Social Security and click on Show more
    4. Click Start next to IRAs, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).
