3RD STIMULUS PAYMENT ISSUE

So my husband and I filed jointly on our 2021 taxes, but only he received the $1400 stimulus check that year.

Will I get one now that they are issuing them to those you didn't get the previous one?

3RD STIMULUS PAYMENT ISSUE

I don't know.  The payments are being made to people who were eligible but did not file.

Why did you not claim the payment on your 2021 return?  Remember, most taxpayers received the $1400 economic impact payment in the middle of 2021.  The rebate was only claimed on the 2021 return if you did not get the EIP in the middle of the year.  And on a joint return, there would have been one rebate claim on line 30 of form 1040.

Look at your form 1040 line 30, did you request $1400 or $2800?  If you only requested $1400, why was that?  Did you already get your payment in the middle of the year?  Did you request $2800 but only received $1400 because the IRS reduced it because they thought you already were paid?  If the IRS thinks they paid you the $1400 EIP, that's all you get, if you never received it, you have to run a trace rather than claim it again.

Check your tax return and check your account here to see if you can determine why you did not receive the rebate.

3RD STIMULUS PAYMENT ISSUE

There were a lot of people who were so confused by stimulus checks and advance child tax credit payments, that when they prepared their 2021 tax returns that many did not even know what they received or why.   Check your online IRS account to see if the $1400 was sent to you at some point.

Try checking your online account with the IRS (and if you filed a joint return—check for BOTH of you)

If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.
