Question

24 character Tracking ID

None of the financial Institutions tax statements have a 24 character Tracking ID number. All responses suggest entering the data from the statement manually. I do this for most. One Investment bank has a 30 plus page statement. I have always been able to download this in past years.  It would appear that this new requirement of a Tracking ID number does not allow any downloading  of data or am I missing something.

I have the same problem with the Merrill import. I have not seen a requirement for a "tracking ID" in previous years. This seems new this year and I'm hoping it can get solved soon. Manually entering many pages of tax data is not a solution.

Friends, You are not alone. I have not gotten anywhere with the front line 800 number customer support people at TurboTax or Merrill. They are not aware of the problem and fumble around and waste your time. I have "elevated" my issue to a higher office at TurboTax with a very responsive person (in the President's office) who has promised to look into it.  I sent multiple screen shots illustrating the problem. Check out ChatGTP or search for "24 Character Bank ID for TurboTax" about this issue and it will tell you more than you might want to know about this problem, its history, its causes, and possible remedies.

Bottom Line....I will badger Turbo and Merrill (I am a retired engineer and can get compulsive and we have time) but if you have to get your taxes in soon chances are you can transcribe from the PDFs they send and, supposedly (according to Chat) only summary of potentially many stock transactions are needed. (Merrill manages my portfolio)

    Please share any info...

I believe Merrill fixed it.  The pull-down menu now offers a choice for just Merrill. Choosing this instead of what previously was the only Merrill related option (which resulted in the demand for the 24-character code) will fix the problem (probably)
