This will be the first year my husband and I file our taxes jointly.
He retired in June and we also bought a new home.
What documents will I need to file our return?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will need all your normal Form W-2s related to employment and 1099s related to investment income.
Your house closing documents should include a Settlement Statement. This document may show Property Taxes and/or mortgage interest that you paid in connection with the closing.
It will be really helpful if both of you have a copy of your 2021 tax returns. There may be carryovers on one of the 2021 tax returns that have an impact on the 2022 joint return (for example, a capital loss carryover).
Did you just get married in 2022? Or why have you been filing separate? Joint is the best way to file. He will get a 1099R for his retirement. Does he also get Social Security yet? That comes on a SSA-1099.
We've been married for 4 years thus far. We always filed separate because my husband owed every year.
And he does also receive SSA.
Thanks so much!
