2019 and 2020 Federal Taxes not processed: Should I file NonFiling to get Third Stimulus?

I filed our 2019 Federal by paper and it hasn't been processed yet due to the Pandemic (we know IRS received it because they cashed the check).  I looked online and for 2019, IRS is saying that we have a "Verification of Non-FIling" for 2019.  As a result, we didn't receive the second Stimulus Payment and so we filed for it on our 2020 form and are getting a hefty refund.

We were able to file 2020 Federal electronically about 5 weeks ago, but while TT says that it has been accepted, the refund hasn't been processed yet.  We haven't received our third stimulus payment yet, and I suspect it is because both 2019 and 2020 haven't been processed.

I am wondering if it would do any good to file the "Nonfiling" form that I hear that some are filing to get their third stimulus payment?  Or would that be a BIG MISTAKE?!  And cause a lot of unnecessary trouble.

Thanks for your help.

there is no such thing as a 'non filer' form for the 3rd stimulus.  if you don't receive the payment, then filing in 2021 will get it for you using the same process as you received the 2nd stimulus on the 2020 tax return,

there are still 3rd payments going out, so you may receive it yet.

No, please wait since you filed your 2019 and 2020 return. Once your return has been processed the IRS should send you the third stimulus payment if you are eligible. If not then you will be able to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return for the third stimulus.

Keep checking IRS Get My Payment for updates of your third stimulus status.

To be eligible you need to be a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien in 2020 and have a Social Security number that is valid for employment.

You cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else to be eligible.

  • If you have an adjusted gross income (AGI) under $75,000 ($150,000 married filing jointly), you will be eligible for the full $1,400 stimulus payment.
  • Payments will begin to be reduced for individuals making $75,000 or above in AGI ($150,000 for married filing jointly.)
  • Once your AGI reaches $80,000 for individuals ($160,000 married filing jointly) you will be ineligible for a payment.

"Unlike the first two payments, the third stimulus payment is not restricted to children under 17. Eligible families will get a payment based on all of their qualifying dependents claimed on their return, including older relatives like college students, adults with disabilities, parents and grandparents" (IRS).
