Gross distribution of 14,000. Had federal tax of $1400 withheld. State tax of $1000 withheld. Message= “state withholding can’t be greater than gross distribution “

Make sure that the state taxes withheld do not have a misplaced decimal point or a comma for the decimal point on the TurboTax Form 1099-R.

If everything is correct the delete the Form 1099-R and re-enter manually.

What state? Was there an amount in box 16 of the 1099-R?

If box 16 is blank, put the box 1 amount in it. If you have only one state on your return, this is almost certainly what would have gone there.
