My son received a 1099-SSA. His only income was SSI and SSDI for 2022. I entered his information into TurboTax and both his Federal and State(Geogia) returns have him owing nothing and receiving no refunds.
The question is does he need to or should he print and mail in returns to the IRS and Georgia?
Thanks

No, he doesn't need to file/mail his return if that's is his only income.
Is there any income showing at all or is it all zeros? If he is under the filing requirement, he does not need to file. The IRS does not want a return with all zeros.
Federal is all zeros and Georgia is showing a negative taxable income but everything else is zero.
So, I don't send to Georgia and the IRS?
No, he has no income.
Your son is not obligated to file either a Georgia nor Federal return. However, you can if you want to.
The IRS operates under a statute of limitations when it comes to auditing old tax returns.
If you've reported your information accurately, in most cases they can only go back three years. However, the clock only starts for a given year when you actually file your tax return.

Q. So, I don't send to Georgia and the IRS?
A. Yes, you DON'T send to Georgia and the IRS.
I noticed that when I printed the Georgia tax returns for my son that it did not include the first 2 pages of the federal 1040 return. Is that because my son has zero taxable income?
Yes, your son has no reason to file.
