Hi,
I received an 1099-NEC from my employer.
Box 5 is left blank
Box 6 says "AZ" (no state number)
Box 7 has the same $ amount as box 1.
When filling out my form with the information I have for boxes 6 and 7, turbo tax won't let me continue without putting something in boxes 5 and 6 for state number.
Pleas help, not sur what to do.

If your 1099-NEC has Box 5 left blank, Box 6 with "AZ" but no state number, and Box 7 with the same amount as Box 1, here's what each box represents and how to handle the situation in TurboTax:
To proceed in TurboTax:
It would be really nice if the software would tell you this or just proceed with ignoring the info you did input after some sort of confirmation that the fields left blank were done so intentionally.
Well said. This is unnecessarily confusing and misleading on Turbotax's part.
If I leave boxes 5-6 blank, TurboTax doesn't let me continue.
For the 1099-NEC form in TurboTax, boxes 5 and 6 require state information, including the State ID number. TurboTax typically expects the State ID as shown on your 1099-NEC form for these boxes. Try using the payer's Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) in Box 5 and type 0 in Box 6. This should let you continue.
