I never received a form 1099-c, I do not know the creditor.  How do I obtain the 1099-c form?  I try calling the irs, yet I can never get into a representative.

Form  1099-C is used to report a cancellation of debt. It is considered taxable income in many cases. Your creditor is the only one who can provide that form to you.

You have to be careful about reporting the cancellation of debt without receiving a formal notice from the creditor, as it may not have been officially cancelled, in which case you don't need to report the cancellation.

thank you for replying, it was automatically on my taxes, with no info.  Turbotax is just asking me how much the debt and interest is.  I entered 0, since I do not know the creditor.

Do not enter zero.  Delete the 1099-C from your tax return.

    • Search for 1099-C
    • Jump to 1099-C\
    • Delete the 1099-C entry.

Do not try to report the 1099-C until you have received the form.  That may mean amending your 2020 return if you do not receive the form before you file 2020.
