I entered my mortgage interest into the worksheets, but the amount shows as zero on Schedule A. How do I get it to show up. I can't enter it directly on Schedule A.

If you entered your Mortgage Interest directly on the Home Mortgage Interest Worksheet and an amount did not transfer to Schedule A, you may want to go through the Step-by-Step interview to populate the worksheets. In FORMS mode, you can delete the worksheet(s) and return to interview mode.
It could be an entry you made on the worksheet is incorrect, or more data is needed.

I will try but it correctly populated on the New York State form. So that suggests I did input the information correctly. Makes no sense it's on the state form and not the federal form.
Ok, that worked. But still makes no sense to me. Did the same thing both times.
