"What type of HDHP did Husband have on Dec 1, 2019?" The answer is "family", but it then asks us about a lapse. We have had coverage since 1/7/19 through his ER. Help!

When I answer the question as Family, it asks about a lapse in coverage that do not apply. "If Husband had HDHP coverage on December 1, 2019, but failed to be an eligible individual for other reasons, select None." That does not apply either but it's the only answer to not get the Lapse in coverage question on the next page. What am I missing?

This question should be asked only of taxpayers who

1. Had an HSA in 2019 (HSAs are owned by an individual, not joint), and

2. Contributed to it in 2019.

Every other taxpayer should answer "None".

If you did not have an HSA in 2019 (but your husband did), then you should answer "None" to the question.
