What portion of Colorado Vehicle Registration is deductible (Itemized)

I would like to confirm that it is only the "Ownership Tax" that should be entered under "Car Registration Fees" in Turbotax for my Colorado Vehicle registration.

So, in this case, it would be just $3.00 for this vehicle.

Please note that my Colorado TAX AND FEE RECEIPT looks like the following on the front:

OWNERSHIP TAX

Specific Ownership Tax = 3.00

REGISTRAITON FEES

Age of Vehicle Add-on =7.00

Bridge Safety Surcharge = 18.00

Clerk Hire Fee = 4.00

County Road and Bridge = 1.50

Emergency Medical Services = 2.00

Missions - Area Air Account = 1.50

Emissions - Program Area County = 0.70

Emissions - Statewide Air Account = 0.50

Insurance Fee = 0.50

Material Fee (Year Tab) = 0.22

Motorist Insurance Database Fee = 0.10

Peace Officer Standardized Training Fee = 1.00

Registration Base Fee County = 9.40

Road Safety Surcharge = 23.00

Total Fees = $72.42

Please note that my Colorado TAX AND FEE RECEIPT looks like it has a summary on the back that looks like this:

Ownership Tax = 3.00

Title Fees = 0.00

Sales / Use Tax = 0.00

Bridge Safety Surcharge = 18.00

Road Safety Surcharge = 23.00

Reg Fees = 28.42

TOTAL Fees = $72.42

Yes you are correct using $3 for this vehicle. The part of your Colorado vehicle registration fee that is deductible on your federal return is the ownership tax. The specific ownership taxes you paid for a registration should be on the back of your registration receipt.  You can deduct this fee in either the registration fee section or property tax section, but not both.  No matter which section you enter it in, it will go to 'Personal Property Tax'.

Bump looking for an answer.

I added the 2 fields together and entered into the vehicle deduction area.

Calling taxes "Fees" are the main way Colorado Dimplecraps get-around the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, or TABOR, which requires any Tax increase to be voted on by the people.

JuddJMotchan is incorrect about the "get-around the Taxpayer Bill of Rights" by calling something a fee versus a tax.  When  a government agency attempts to charge a fee like a "wastewater fee"  in Colorado Springs, it was challenged and defeated.  The government agencies may attempt to "slip" something by us but we must challenge them.  Unfortunately later Colorado Springs did put it to a vote of the people, and the voters rolled over and said yes to the additional wastewater charges.  If fact they voted away our rights by allowing Colorado Springs to change at any time the new "fee/tax"

Yes, you can deduct the prior specific ownership tax.  You will see this "additional tax" due to not renewing your registration on time.  Depending on how late you are on filing your auto registration the "prior specific ownership tax" will increase as time passes.
