The Storm Damage Texas winter storm 2023 was declared a disaster by the president and the Governor of Texas.  Here is how to file a causality claim for the damage caused to your home. Once complete, this will be recorded on Form 4684 on your return.

1. Go to federal
2. Deductions and Credits
3. Other Deductions and Credits
4. Causalities and Thefts
5. As you answer the questions, you will come to a section titled Casualty or Theft event. See the 1st screen shot and record the information as illustrated.
6. The next screen will ask for the Fema Code. It is DR-4705. See the second screen shot.
7. Now complete the section to complete reporting of your FEMA loss.
8. Note: In step 3, if you suffer both personal loss or income-producing loss property, you will need to create two causality events by going to the Causality and Theft Summary and adding the event. This screen will appear as you report the first event. This is assuming you have both a personal loss and income-producing loss. See screenshot 3 on how this screen will appear in your return.
