We bought a new car in Georgia. Do I put the TAVT in car registration fee?

No.  You cannot deduct the amount you paid for Georgia's Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) in the Car Registration Fee entry.  This is a one-time fee and therefore the deduction is not allowed on your federal or state tax return.  You can deduct the Ad Valorem Tax portion of your annual car registration.  You can also deduct the Sales Tax paid for your new car purchase.

When deducting the annual auto registration, the deduction is based on the Value portion of this fee.  You cannot deduct the weight portion of this fee.

Each state's car registration fee is based on different criteria.  When taking the deduction, be sure to verify whether your state's car registration fee qualifies for the federal or state tax deduction.
