Unaware new husband owed back taxes

Last year I filed married jointly and when I got my tax return back over $1,500 was taken out because of 2011 back taxes. I had no idea that my husband owed back taxes he failed to tell me so allow me to file jointly with him and the money came out of my earned income credit. Is there a way I can file some amendment to hold him responsible for it now that we're getting a divorce not even a year later

You can complete and file a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation to get your portion of the joint tax refund.  Sign and date the form before mailing.

Go to this IRS website for the address for where to mail, by state, using the address for a Form 1040 without payment - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment
