tool deductions

I built a parsonage for a church. I wasn't paid anything, but I had to buy some tools. Are they deductible?

You could enter that as a charitable donation.   You cannot enter anything for your time, skill or expertise, but if you purchased materials or tools to do the work for the church you can enter that.  And if you drove around fetching materials from the Home Depot, etc. while you were working on the project, you can use the mileage too.
