THe homebuyer credit question has a cliché on the second answer.

I keep selecting the second option but the system defaults to the 3rd answer continuously!

Do you mean the screen, "Tell Us About Your Homebuyer Credit"?

THe homebuyer credit question has a cliché on the second answer.

On the screen, Tell Us About Your Homebuyer Credit, if you select the second answer:

Yes, but the home we received the credit for stopped being our main home on or before December 31,  2017

TurboTax will remove Form 5405 because you should have reported the sale of your home and repaid the balance of the credit with your 2017 tax return.

If you didn't report the sale then, you can report it on your 2018 return by following these steps:
  1. On the Tell Us About Your Homebuyer Credit screen, mark the first radio button, Yes. . .and the home was still your main home on January 1, 2018.
  2.  Enter the date of purchase in the box that appears.
  3. Continue to the screen, At the end of 2018, did you still live in the home you bought in 2008? mark the No button and enter January 1, 2018 in the box.
  4. Mark the appropriate radio buttons regarding uniformed services and click Continue.
  5. On the screen, No Longer Using This Home as Your Main Home, enter 1/1/2018 as the date you stopped using the house as your main home and mark the appropriate radio button.
  6. Continue through the interview, entering the requested information.
  7. Any remaining portion of the tax credit will be added to your tax bill.
