Question

I didn't enter medical expenses in Fed Sched A. Ohio provides a deduction for long-term care premiums but it was not asked in the state questions. Suggestions?

OH Schedule A, line 42, was locked until I went back and changed Federal Schedule A, line 1.  The line of questioning in the Federal section basically suggested that I skip the medical section as my expenses were not even close to 7.5% AGI.  Many OH filers would miss taking this state deduction unless they knew to look for it since the state software did not specifically ask about it.  It also meant changing the Fed return to allow the entry in the OH state.

Did you enter under the Insurance Premiums screen? Let me know.

The Fed Schedule A questioning process basically suggested skipping the medical section because our medical expenses aren't close to 7.5%.  Even with LT care premiums we don't get close to 7.5%.  Due to that line of questioning, the "Medical Expenses" section including "Enter Insurance Premiums" was logically bypassed.
The problem occurs with the OH Schedule A which then doesn't ask the question of LT care premiums and actually doesn't give the option until Fed Sched A is changed.

As long as you enter it as below, the OH state should pick it up. Let me know.

To enter your long-term care premiums:

Sign in to TurboTax. On the first screen (Tax Home), select: Take me to my return.
Search for "Schedule A" and then select Jump to Schedule A in the search results.
You'll be taken to the Medical Expenses screen. Answer Yes.
As you proceed through the medical expenses section, make sure you go past the Long-term care services screen. This screen is for actual care expenses, not insurance premiums.
When you reach the Insurance Premiums screen, enter your gross (total) long-term care premiums.
