The amounts for itemized deductions such as medical and dental expenses are entered in the federal portion of the interview under Deductions and Credits.

In order to have Alabama itemized deductions, enter all your itemized deductions like charity, medical, work expenses, and property taxes in the federal itemized deductions area. You may not qualify for the federal itemized deductions but the itemized amounts will carry over to the Alabama return and Turbo Tax will check to see if you qualify for Alabama itemized deductions.
