Taxes paid on vehicle purchased in a foreign country

I am a US citizen and I recently purchased and paid taxes on a vehicle in Canada for my sister who resides there. Can I deduct those taxes the same as I could for a vehicle purchased in the states?

Sales taxes paid on a purchase in a foreign country are not deductible on a federal tax return.
