I am completing my mother's taxes but she died in 2020 (July 25th) and TurboTax is asking if she received a stimulus check from the feds. Clearly she did not but if I answer that way TurboTax adds a credit of $1800. This doesn't seem correct. Her social security stopped in July and checks should not be sent to died people. I think I should answer Yes to that question to back out the $1800.

You should answer the question correctly. According to the IRS, "Recovery rebate credits may be claimed for individuals who died in 2020 or 2021 when filing the decedent's 2020 tax return. This includes someone who filed joint tax returns with a spouse who died in 2020 or 2021. Please refer to the Form 1040 and 1040-SR instructions for more information."
Thanks. This caused me to go back and look more carefully at my records. I had forgotten about the stimulus at the beginning of the year in 2020. Once I found the date I checked my mother's records and could see that she received a payment as well. Problem solved.
