State deduction banking information rejected

Both gederal and state returns were accepted. I owe state tax. Bank account is same as direct deposit for federal refund. Got refund. State says my bank account doesn't exist.

some banks use different routing numbers for deposits and withdrawals. if you took the routing and a/c number off the checks this problem shouldn't happen. anyway, why not go to state website to pay electronically. another option is to mail in check with voucher and still another is to call state department of revenue (at number on notice you got), they could have messed up.

I do the freebie version. After the federal is finished, then the state, the banking numbers from federal are sent to the state form. Looking at my state copy, there's no banking information there when it should have been.
