Q. I claimed a family member on my 2021-2022 taxes that receives SSI. Is he able to file a non filer tax return to get a stimulus check?
A. No. An individual is not taken into account more than once, including by different taxpayers and including by reason of dependent status between the taxable year for which an advance stimulus is determined and the taxable year for which a credit under subsection (a) is determined.
If you claimed them as a dependent, then you received whatever credit was allowed, if any. A person who is claimed as a dependent cannot also receive a Covid stimulus payment in their own name.
