Not necessarily. If you did not use your new HSA to pay for health care expenses, you won't get one.
You'll get Form 1099-SA if you used funds in your Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Medical Savings Account (MSA) to pay for health care expenses.
It's important that you enter the information from your 1099-SA before you enter your medical expenses, so we can properly calculate your medical expense deduction.
Here's how to enter your 1099-SA form:
- Open (continue) your return in TurboTax.
- In TurboTax search for 1099-SA or 1099SA (lower-case work too) and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
- On the Tell us about the health-related accounts you had in 2016 screen, check the boxes for the types of accounts you have (these may already be pre-selected based on earlier info you entered).
- Click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the form.
