The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return. If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021
Was your child under the age of 17 at the end of 2020? You cannot get child tax credit or stimulus for a child who was over the age of 16 at the end of 2020.
The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the Federal Review section, If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.
@xmasbaby0 My son was born in October of 2020 so he would have only been eligible for the second payment I think? I got both stimulus checks but he wasn't on my taxes since he wasn't born until October and when I went to file it never mentioned anything about the recovery rebate amount, it just asked me to claim my son lived with me and that would affect the stimulus backpay. I just wasn't sure if that amount was included in my refund amount or if that would have been separate
@melisabeth95 It sounds like you missed going through the recovery rebate credit section. It is in the Federal Review at the end, If you have already e-filed it is too late to fix it at this moment. But wait to see if your return is accepted or rejected----that will not happen until sometime after February 12. If is rejected you can go back and use the rebate credit, If it is accepted, there is a chance the IRS will catch it and add t anyway----but this is so new we cannot be sure yet how they will handle it, Worst case--you amend later.
