Please review this link regarding Stimulus checks issued for ex-pats. if you are a legal resident of the UK, whether Americans abroad will be able to receive this check is not 100% certain right now. IRS has not issued any clear guidelines on how this is handled.
if you still maintain a legal residence in Florida, you can indicate you are a resident as of 12/31. Keep in mind, if you had your taxes directly deposited or directly debited from a US bank account, the stimulus check will be deposited in that Bank Account.
Hi there
Thank you for your reply. I am still married and my husband filed taxes jointly 2018.
As we are currently going through a divorce and the fact I and my son had only just left the US in August 2019. I am a US citizen.
I did not want the check to go to my husband because well....he got wrong off a judge for doing something he shouldn't of and he will keep this money if he receives money for us.
Do you have to be working to complete this registration online?
You can enter either Florida or the UK as your place of residency. If you can still receive mail at your Florida address, you can enter that.
You do not have to be working to complete the online registration.
Please note that
In the coming weeks, Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for individuals to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.
Please check the IRS Corona-virus website here for updates. This is where all updates will be updates as soon as information is available.
