We adopted a child in July 2020. Since he did not live with us more than 6 months of 2019, we were not able to claim him until TY 2020. We missed out on the child tax credit in 2019- rightfully so, but now have also missed the multiple special stimulus payments for him (3-yrs-old) that took place in 2020. We filed our 2020 taxes (mailed them in) in April but have yet to receive confirmation they've been received, no refund received, etc. Last week we received the most recent child tax payment for our daughter but money for our adopted son was again, not included. Is there anything we can do to make sure we are showing as having two children and receive the previous payments or at the very least, payments going forward? Thanks for your time!

Congratulations on your recent Adoption!!!!!!! What a great and wonderful adventure you are on - the addition to your family - I wish your all the pleasures in the world!!!!
Since your child was adopted in 2020 the change in status may have confused the IRS. Switching from a foster child to adopted child status. Sometimes the transition from foster care dependent to your child has to go through several channels such as Social Security and other things. I would suggest contacting the IRS just to verify the information is correct on the IRS side.
The IRS telephone number is 1-800-829-1040, and they are available from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The best time to call is early in the morning.
The first question the automated system will ask you is to choose your language.
Once you’ve set your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (regarding refund info). Choose option 2 for “Personal Income Tax” instead.
Next, press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
Next, press 3 “for all other questions.”
Next, press 2 “for all other questions.”
When the system asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, do NOT enter anything.
After it asks twice, you will be prompted with another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Finally, press 4 for all other inquiries. The system should then transfer you to an agent
