Property loss from non federally declared disasters

December 2022 in Texas.  Freezing temperatures in the 20s caused extensive damage from flooding from a burst water pipe in the attic when I was out of state from December 21 through December 31.  The temperatures dropped below freezing beginning December 22 and by December 24 the pipe burst causing the damage.  This was not a federally declared disaster, but can I claim the expenses related to repairing my home?

Casualty and Theft losses are not reported on a federal tax return unless they occurred in a federally declared disaster area.  Some states allow this deduction so you can enter it in TurboTax and see if your state will accept this on their tax return.
