Part of my 2021 property taxes just got paid in 2022. Do I deduct them in 2021 or next year?

You deduct them on your 2022 tax return.  Property taxes are deductible in the year actually paid.

At what point though will TurboTax show me the additional 3500 per child that is still owed and I qualify for?

If you are asking about the advance child tax credit (ACTC) that you believe should be included on your tax return use the information here to answer any necessary questions and then check your return before you file.

If you qualify for the child tax credit (CTC) you claim this on your 2021 tax return. When you are signed into your TurboTax account use the following steps:

  1. In the search box type child tax credit > use the Jump to ... link > Follow the screens (see the images below)

You may have received the Advance Child Tax Credit in 2021, since potentially half of it could have been paid to your during the year.  If so, it's important to wait for the IRS letter or use the portal to be prepared to complete your tax return.

The IRS will send letters this month to each person who received the Advance Child Tax Credit. To help taxpayers reconcile and receive all the 2021 child tax credits to which they are entitled, the IRS started sending Letter 6419, 2021 advance CTC, in late December 2021 and will continue into January.

You can view your entire return or just your 1040 form before you e-file:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then:
    • View only your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu.
  3. Scroll to line 28 (see below)
  4. See images below
