No-Longer Resident for Tax Purposes - how to get full refund?

Hi there,

For 5 years my wife and I were residents of the USA FOR TAX PURPOSES, meaning we were on work visas. In 2022 I worked for 15 days in January and my wife 3 month before returning home. We do not meet the 183 day substantial presence test and therefore I assume we should get a FULL refund on all taxes paid in 2022. I tried doing this with TurboTax but it wouldn't give me the full refund and sent me to Sprintax. Now I am trying to do this in Sprintax but it wont let me file jointly.

After thinking about it, it does not matter whether we get the standard deduction on joint deduction because we should get a full refund anyway - am I thinking about this correctly? Should I still be using TurboTax?

Thank you

No.  If you are a non-resident, then you would need to file using Sprintax.com as TurboTax will not file a 1040NR for you.  You can try contacting support at Sprintax to find out how to fix the joint filing issue.
