My spouse was a full-time student for 4 months of the year (Fall Semester). We also paid for day-care for those 4 months. Do we qualify for tax break on day care expense?

Started grad school on August 28th, and started paying for day care at about the same time.

It depends on the rest of your tax situation, but being a full-time student does enable you to potentially qualify for the Dependent Care Credit.

Here is how to enter the daycare expenses:

  • Navigate to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Dependent Care Credit > Add/Edit. Make sure you choose 5 months on the screen that asks how many months you were a full time student to indicate a full semester

See more information about the credit here: The Ins and Outs of the Child and Dependent Care Credit
