My husband moved to a care home in the middle of the year. Where do I find the question “ were you and your spouse separated during the year for medical reasons”?

If you were legally married on December 31, 2024, you have some options as to what you want your filing status to be. ‌You can file Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, or Head of Household. 

• Married Filing Jointly (MFJ) - Both spouses must agree to file jointly. It usually results in the lowest overall tax rate. 
• Married Filing Separately (MFS)-  Couples who file separately typically get fewer tax benefits. ‌
• Head of Household (HoH)- Since you are married, you may qualify to file Head of Household if you meet these conditions.

The question you are referring to in the program, is at the beginning of your return under your Personal profile, in Your info.  Under the information about your household, choose your marital status. TurboTax will guide you to see what filing status is best for your situation.
