The IRS requires this information. If you cannot obtain the information, then you will have to print your return, mail it in with an attachment explaining to the IRS why you cannot provide your seller's info. Include the seller's name and address.
Verify that this information is not in your purchase contract or loan documents somewhere first.
If this is a seller financed-mortgage, the IRS states in Publication 537 "if either person fails to include the other person's SSN, a penalty will be assessed".
