Agreed, but no, there is a balance in that box.
Don't know if that will come back to bite you or not. Per the instructions at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1098--2020.pdf it clearly states "Enter the amount of outstanding principal on the mortgage as of January 1, 2020."

There is a bug with TurboTax around how they handle having multiple 1098s for a single residence.
Works fine for me in a test scenario with the CD version of Home & Business.
