mortgage interest deduction

I have 3 1098's.....one for our full time residence and two for our Wyndham vacation ownership interest.  During 2019 we refinanced our loan (increased our points) which is why we received two statements.  I entered all the info from one of them with no problem but when I finished entering the info for the other it won't let me go past that screen, saying something about having to have a value in the box for outstanding mortgage principal.  On both 1098's from Wyndham, box 2 says $0.00.  How do I get past that?  I have nothing else to enter and it accepted it for one but not the other.

Your outstanding mortgage principal amount is necessary to determine if your mortgage interest is deductible. Even though the form doesn't report the amount, you have to determine what the balance was at the end of the year and enter it as part of the form 1098 entry.

How exactly am I supposed to determine that?  I called Wyndham and they were of no help.

I tried duplicating your 1098 issue in TurboTax, entering $0 as the Outstanding Mortgage Principal on each one, and did not get stuck on the screen that you mentioned above.

You may want to revisit this section, review your answers to each of the questions and try it again.  Here is how to revisit this section in TurboTax:

  1. While in your Tax Home,
  2. Select Search from the top right side of your screen,
  3. Enter Mortgage Interest,
  4. Select Jump to Mortgage Interest,
  5. Select Edit for each of your 1098's.
